Moving - best broadband deal

Hi,
Am moving house at the weekend so am thinking about using the opportunity to change broadband supplier. I have been using Tiscali 2MB at £14.99 for some time now but appreciate there are better deals out there. I am wondering if they are they reliable and what the potential problems can be? I appreciate that if I use Google mail I don't need a supplier specific email address so this seems to make service providers more portable and using a cheaper service easier.
What are the pitfalls?

getting a mac code is hard especially if like me they have moved you onto a LLU line without telling you.i have to wait for about 15 days while they clear my line thats if they start tommorow,i wont hold my breath then 7-10 days for my new isp ,it looks like i wil be getting my life back, well for 3 weeks anyway lol0

Oh no, that sounds like its going to take forever! Would it not be quicker as I am moving to a new house? Can I not set the ball going on the new address with the new provider before I get there? The phone will be turned on by BT on saturday and the house is currently empty.0

I don't think a mac will apply - you're moving house and line [and phone number?] whereas AFAIK a mac is for where you move BB supplier but keep the same line.
If you know your new phone number there's no harm in trying the supplier and asking if you can set the ball rolling before you move. I think most ISPs reckon on 7-10 days to set up a new connection rather than migrate an existing BB line.
Which is the best for you depends on a lot of things that are personal to you. Do you want a package with the phone, do you have Sky or use Orange mobile, do you want a monthly contract, blah, blah. Good places to check out potential suppliers are:

You've been with the most complained about ISP so presumably any other should be an improvement!!0 -
Thanks, interestingly I haven't had a problem with Tiscali, though I understand there are many that aren't happy with them. I am moving a long way (260 miles) so am not keeping the same number. The phone is being "switched on" by BT on saturday. I will have Sky installed there (sunday) and am wondering about the free 2gb sky service. I like "free" - its my favourite price!!! I don't download much online and see that if 2GB isn't enough, though it has been so far, upping it to 8MB makes an increase of £5 a month, but still a saving as I pay Tiscali £14.99 monthly currently.
Sky seems to be the best so far. Talk talk looked good but it would seem to take a long time to get in place.0 -
You need to call Sky and see if their free offering is available on the exchange you're moving to yet.
Our local one is shown as Sky/Easynet enabled but they say it's 6 months before they can supply the freebie. I think they may have learned from TalkTalk's fiasco and be trying not do it all at once. You could use Sky connect which is £16.99pm [I think] and they'll swop you over once the free one is available. Alternatively go with a firm that does monthly contracts and switch to Sky when you can.0 -
Thanks, It seems to be impossible to find a number for sky broadband! I'll keep looking!0

Spoke to sky - they cannot tell me if i can get sky broadband at the new address until the phone is connected and live as they look at the connection to see what is available. Gotta call back on saturday.0
