Programs Needing To Be Closed When Shutting Down

When I shut down my PC, all these program windows pop out asking to be shut down before the PC shuts down. Any idea why this is, and how I can stop them?
Also when I boot up my PC, it's now taking an age to load windows, and suggestions there?
Sorry if all this has been posted already. I've been trawling through but haven't found anything.:o

What is malware? I regularly check for spyware with SpyBot, Windows Defender and Norton Anti-Virus 2006. Is it the same?
Some of the programs I recognise as software I've installed, others I don't. I don'tt want to get busy with installing programs that require me to take gambles if it's not neccessary.'Tis the time's plague, when madmen lead the blind0 -
i think malware is basically spyware that gives you pop ups while you browse the net0

Definition of malware (courtesy of Wikipedia):
"Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a blend of the words "malicious" and "software". The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code.
Many normal computer users are however still unfamiliar with the term, and most never use it. Instead, "(computer) virus" is more commonly used in common parlance and often in the general media to describe all kinds of malware. Another term that has been recently coined for "malware" is "badware", perhaps due to the antimalware initiative Stopbadware or corruption of the term "malware".
Software is considered malware based on the intent of the creator rather than any particular features. It includes computer viruses, worms, trojan horses, spyware, adware, and other malicious and unwanted software. In law, malware is sometimes known as a computer contaminant, for instance in the legal codes of California, West Virginia, and several other U.S. states [1].
Malware should not be confused with defective software, that is, software which has a legitimate purpose but contains harmful bugs."

Would it definitely be malware that's causing my pc to boot up slowly and ask me to close programs before shutdown?'Tis the time's plague, when madmen lead the blind0

Will do next time i'm here after a shut down. I know SpyBot picks up some stuff, which it then deletes, but an immediate re-scan brings up more stuff.'Tis the time's plague, when madmen lead the blind0
