Saving gas ?

I know the best way to save gas is not to have it on :) but I was wondering ...........if I turn the immersion heater on for say an hour before the gas central heating comes on will that save some gas ? Surely if the elec. has heated the water it saves the lpg doing it ?

So please, someone in the know, am I being dull ? Just thought it maybe a way to ekk out the gas.

isnt your immersion tanks for hot water only? IE it wont heat rads?
  • Save some gas, sure, but the cost of using the electric will be far greater than the savings made on the gas bill... Remember, your immersion heater is probably 2 or 3kw rated, so would use 25-40p an hour, depending on your electric price per unit. I reckon it costs me this much, per day, to heat the hot water in my cylinder, not per hour!

I only want to save gas until the delivery arrives, would not dream of doing it otherwise. Keeping warm is the issue not necessarily the cost at the moment.

Besides lpg is costing about £50 pw and can't say all of the house is warm enough
