OK, firstly you will not see £350/day for C# skills as a junior programmer. Programming is about MUCH more than just the syntax of one language, although a CS degree will help a little, you really need a heap of experience before it'll be worth going out to contract at £350/day (or realistically £300/day tops, you may see a bit more in central London or in the financial institutions, but that's a bit of a closed shop). The rates you get won't vary too much between VB.NET and C#, they compile to the same bytecode and have the same performance and capabilities. C++/VB were different, but for the past decade or so in .NET land they're peers as are all CLR languages.
The reality of a junior programmer role will be £25-30k tops if you want a 'proper' employed job, but given 8-10 yrs experience you may see £40k+, or £300/day contract.0
