Is learning VB.Net a good skill to learn, is there a demand for jobs?

I have a degree in Computer Science been working for 5 years in IT industry.

Need to get a new job with more money...lol

What do you do now and what are you interested in?

Programming is not for everyone. The driver for getting into it should not be money. Also programmers don't get paid loads compared to what they used to.

I work with both and having come from a JAVA background find c# much better. I would say there is probably more money in the bussiness analyst side of things if you can get in with the right company. As for the £350 a day yes somone with 5 years experiance will make that contracting but not somone just starting out. If you fancy the move try and find a job that will train you with good mentors and career progression. Any fool can program but only a few can program well.

.net and c# seem to be wanted everywhere at the moment, especially .net.

Even with [,,]!?

My one pet hate with C#.... EVERY other langugage does [][], but no, C# HAS to be different.

I find it amusing that c#.net is in more demand and better paid than vb.net as there is almost no difference between the two in terms of what you can do with them and performance. I am looking to start learning vb.net in the new year as I am becoming frustrated with the limitations of VBA and intend to start using VSTO, I'm not a programmer but I extensivley use VBA to automate analysis and optimisation of programmes.

[][] in c# is the same as it is in c++ and java (array of arrays)

[,] is a proper multidimentional array.


I dont think vb.net has lower salaries really but most codebases are in c# and I personally wouldn't mix by codebase if i didn't have to. esp not when a good vb.net can do c# and visa versa
