  • You do make a good point however, don't pay attention to the news when you have plans.
For example, earlier this week the various news sources reported that there were no trains in or out of Kings Cross in London.
Whilst it was true of the East Coast mainline trains there were local and Cambridge trains and I took a perfectly fine, if busy, return trip to Cambridge.

I think your first mistake was thinking that Daybreak was the news...
  • Thanks, i found this when i realised my mistake earlier.

as i thought, im annoyed but mainly with myself - shoudlnt beleive everything on the news :)

But according to your first post they only said all trains were DELAYED. Not cancelled.

you kind of got mixed up their and thus made yourself look silly on this forum for not even attempting to get your train.

Virgin wont do much apart from refund you for £10 the return portion of your ticket,.

No problem, i canceled my apointment and made my way to the office instead, i called thetrainline to organise my refund only to be told that the train i booked left on time  and so no refund would be given.

Lesson learnt (I learnt this years ago): NEVER buy from Thetrainline. AWFUL company with AWFUL attitude toward customers. Also charges unnecessary fees.
now in hindsite i should have checked with national rail/thetrainline before canceling my apointments and its now too late for me to re-organise but obviously im pretty miffed - plus my employer is down £89 for todays train fares that will need to be re-booked in the new year. the indian call centre at the trainline had little understanding of the problem and just stood by their statement that its non refundable.
£89? What was the ticket? That's twice the price of a walk-on Off Peak Return which costs £41.90 which is the same price from Euston station and avoids Thetrainline's fees, this is valid providing you weren't getting a really early train on the morning?

Alternatively for £82 you can get a ticket that is valid on ANY train on the Chiltern route (via High Wycombe and Banbury) journey time is 2 hours rather than 1.5 hours.

Perhaps it's £89 because you bought the ticket from your local station rather than from London?

Hopefully you can avoid being ripped-off by TTL next time!

tbf national rail online have been beyond CRAPPPP with the snow/delay updates. they are no better than the boards or staff at the stations. basically its whatever train u see pull into the station. last sat Virgin were SCREWED and still showed 'on time' when u got to the station the boards said cancelled cancelled cancelled...

southern a while back said they'd started services at 10am..... LIES... they started at 8.30am, and decided NOT to update their website or NR. I found out when i saw a train pulling away and i spoke to a guard.

    BASICALLY... it's your fault.

Whilst i share your frustration its not the peoples on the floors fault.. They only get told what they get told and if they know nothing then they know nothing..

Bad management overall from some TOCs i must agree
