Brains of Britain I am I have all my photographs on my laptop organised into folders, need to back them up onto a disc (never seem to find the time), and I empty my recycle bin regularly. My 2010 folder of photographs has completely disappeared
I have searched my computer and it has not been inadvertently dragged and dropped anywhere. I can only think my 5 year old has been pressing something and then I have emptied the recycle bin. Are they definitely gone now they are emptied from the bin?

a friend of mine is a computer scientist, he works for the police retrieving info from the pc's and laptops of peadophiles for evidence, unless you use special shredding software anything can be retrieved, you just need to find the right person to do it for you0

Have you established that it has or hasn't been drag/dropped?
Option 1
Search the whole of your hard drive (all partitions too) for 'folder name'
Option 2
Assuming your photos are all in .jpg format, search the whole of your hard drive for "*.jpg" to list EVERY jpg you have.
In the search results, ensure the column with Folder Name is switched on, and sort by Folder; then look down the list for your 2010 folder.0 -
Computers do not delete files they only mark them to be overwritten.
- The first thing you need to do is make sure you stop using the PC/laptop so that the data doesn't get overwritten.
- Next thing to do is download a piece of recovery software, I use something called Ontrack Easy Recovery (but there's loads of them).
- Install the software to a secondary drive, usb drive, external hard drive, etc.
- Search and recover the data.

You can try Recuva
http://filehippo.com/download_recuva/
and / or PC Inspector
http://www.pcinspector.de/FileRecovery/instructions.htm?po=2&language=1
Anything which is added to the hard drive may overwrite the files you hope to recover, so try to avoid this0 -
recuva deep scan or disk digger, then backup to DVD leaving originals on the hard disk!!

Or if you want to dig forensically then encase will do the job perfectly although it would be overkill.0
