I suspect that many users of these websites don't take time to read the privacy policy.
Now you resort to patronising us!

You cannot use Confused without agreeing you have read the policy!

You tell us how careful you are about "always reading the Ts + cs" and "untick boxes allowing them to share info with their partners", yet happily ticked the confused box - not only allowing them to share your details with their partners, but accepting that they couldn't guarantee no spam!

Then come here a pointless rant over one spam message in over a year!

• Personally I jsut put mickey.mouse@aol.com and 01234 567890 and if I want to take the quote further I can contact the company myself.

lol , me too lisyloo , i have also been known to use minnie.mouse
The loopy one has gone :j
• You think I was patronising you? Blimey!

You have however pointed out a flaw in my careful process. When I registered with Confused.com in 2009 and read their Ts & Cs I did not knowingly see any warning that by registering on their site I might receive spam emails. Sadly I did not keep a copy of those Ts & Cs so I cannot now verify what I agreed to. The Ts & Cs that now prevail on the site may not be the same ones that I agreed to so the lesson, which no doubt you already adopt Quentin, is to save a copy at the time of registration.

I have learnt a lot this morning by coming here, and as a consequence I shall indeed move on and get on with my life. Happy Christmas.

You might get the right answer but don't expect the milk of human kindness?

Merry Christmas :)

Don’t know about patronising but it’s an interesting point and I suspect a breech of Data Protection, one part of which is that information collected can only be used for the purpose for which it was collected.

Now, assuming that the OP did tick the “no” box then I can see an argument that information given to a insurance company might be validly used for other financial services but a casino is stretching it just a bit.

OP, either follow the advice that seems quite common these day “suck it up, there is nothing you can do” or make a complaint to Confused and if you aren’t happy with their response then follow it up with the regulator for Data Protection. I suspect nothing tangible will happen but the checking and reviewing will certainly cost Confused more than they got for your address.

You don't get a no box to tick.

You get a box to agree you have read the privacy policy, which says they will pass on your details to their partners and cannot guarantee you won't get any spam.

If you don't agree with this then you cannot use confused.

Yes I was carefully to say in post #3 that "normally" you get a box to tick.
You don't always.
If the site don't give you the choice, then the you either have to agree or go elsewhere.

Confused.com say they have a no-spam policy:

If you need a telephone number when using Confused.com then use this number: 02920 434398 :D

Get a grip people, they can’t have terms & conditions that avoid their responsibility under data protection.

Spam from partners is going to be insurance/finance related and therefore allowed as it's broadly in line with why the data was collected in the first place

Spam from casinos and (tomorrow) from Viagra shops isn’t and means that someone has sold a mailing list which is a breech of the law and should be investigated by Confused

Most of the Compare/Moneysupermarket sites want your phone number for follow up marketing. Just be sure to direct them to Busty Brenda on 0906 362436.
