Nexus S v Desire HD

Contract up in Jan. Think I will give Android a go having been with Nokia since about 1997 (having previously only had one motorala before that). If anyone has Nokia Shares then if ever there was a sell signal it is the day this loyal customer decides they're behind....

Anyway, my Mrs got an iPhone 4 and I got envious. So, I will stick with three and the best Android phone they have going is the (large) Desire HD. I'm tempted by that (and the size doesn't completely put me off - I find I use my phone almost more for net stuff now than as a phone). But also note the Nexus S has just been released.

Obviously three don't do the Nexus S - so if I wanted it I would get the HD on upgrade and ebay it to part fund the google phone. To be honest cost isn't the issue I just want the coolest smartphone which is best for internet, social network stuff and a dam good telephone. Camera and GPS aren't be all and end all for me. As most of my business is outputting software in Flash I can't really go apple.

Anyone out there tried both phones? If so what would you go for?

    this review might help
  • Sorry loofer! Not really!

    That is about the Desire (not HD) v the Nexus One (not the Nexus S)!

    Would have been just what I was after if I was out of contract last Jan though!

    they are both 2 of the best android phones out there,
    the nexus s will get the very latest updates from google and like the nexus 1 will be strongly supported by the mod community, the desire HD isn't even guarenteed to get the latest updates but is partly suported by the mods (ie there is a cyanogen mod for it)

    depends really I think I would go for the nexus s (because it is more stock android) unless you want more than 16GB of removable storage, or a bigger but not better screen.

    yeah forgot about the dual core ones coming out here and here it comes with LGs skin but a quick install of a custom launcher will get rid of that hopefully.

    If its a toss up between two phones by two different manufacturers, check carefully which one is made by Samsung and then buy the other one.

    LG are launching a dual core model in January. I wouldnt be jonesing to own an LG phone either but it does have some terrific specs.
  • I've got a Desire HD.

    What it does that the Nexus S doesn't -
    * HD video
    * Notification light
    * MicroSD card

    What the Nexus S does that the DHD doesn't:
    * Front facing camera
    * AMOLED screen

    Frankly, i'd rather get the Samsung galaxy S rather than the Nexus S.. They dropped the gorilla glass (tough glass screen) from the nexus
