Is Skype Working?

Hi,
Wednesday December 22nd. 5pm. I've been trying to connect to skype for over an hour with no luck. I've rebooted, reset my router, and even downgraded the software version which changed recently. Still no luck. Internet is working fine for everything else.
Is Skype working for anybody else right now?
Thanks

  • Back on today - but had to re-sign in
  • IMO Skype is not a serious VOIP provider - limited features, non standard protocols and now massive wide scale outages. I don't know why people bother.

Perhaps because most of the time it works pretty well for a huge number of people?
  • This is a bootstrap issue :)

Skype works by using P2P.. so lets pretend every server in the world goes down at the same time... then, when they all try to come back up at the same time, there's no seeds to connect to?

Now let's say Skype put up one seed, everyone comes back up and tries to connect to that seed DOS'ing it.... seed goes down, back to square one.

They had one problem yesterday, which then caused a domino effect and now they're just trying to boot up seeds globally so people can log in. As everyone keeps trying to log in it's DOSing the seeds etc...

Will be resolved by this evening I imagine.

More like lots of people are sucked in by the marketing and they are happy to accept mediocrity.
