Nice landlords really do exist.

  • You're lucky! Ours claims to be a "nice guy" but actually, he's a massive douche who tried to give me tips on how to avoid paying our council tax (seriously!) and kicked up a huge stink about repairing the dodgy (and illegally installed) boiler until it finally packed up for good. I love our house but he's too dodgy to have as a LL so I think we'll be moving on come the summer. Not worth sticking around when DH and I have a toddler and a new baby on the way.

All a bit of a shock as a previous LL we had was just lovely!

i always tried to be a nice landlord, gave me ex tenant a full box of beer, a weeks rent back in cash for his two kids last christmas, he repays me by leaving without telling me, leaving owing 2 months rent, not to mention £400 in unpaid water and elec bills, not to mention he never paid his council tax. oh and a nice extra present, some rather ugly debt collectors. but hey u get some bad ones! all the best to the good tenants and landlords that are out there
  • My tenant is on a periodic tenancy now as she's looking to buy her own place. She's been an excellent tenant and her boyfriend's a nice guy as well. When they complete and move out I plan on buying them a bottle of champagne to congratulate them.

On the subject of nice people - got a card in the post today from the people we bought this house from wishing up a merry first Christmas in our new home - thought that was nice!

Our Christmas gift from our landlord is a property inspection on Christmas Eve - apparently it 'has' to be done then. Some landlords aren't so good ...

That's okay, you can just stick Xmas decorations over anything dodgy.

I used to think it was great having a landlord that didn't hassle me for inspections. Until I needed something fixing and realised I hadn't seen or heard from him in 2 and a half years and all his contact details were now dead. Had to resort to tracking him down on facebook!

Ive never spoken to our tenant, except for when they came to view the house.

Ive knocked a few times to ask them if they wanted anything repairing to reduce our annual profit, but they are never in, or ignore me.

The rent is always paid within a week of its due date, so i cant complain..

Why don't you write rather than randomly call round.

A card at Christmas saying "Happy Christmas, and let me know if there are any issues or repairs needed with the house"

They don't keep the curtains closed all the time do they?
  • Nice land lords do exist but they hard to find.If tenants are wise and do support his landlord then there will be high availability of a good landlord. they do help other people in home making.

  • As a result of seeing this thread I went to Morrisons in my lunch hour and bought my tenants a bottle of wine. ( Been there 2 yrs- no problems- rent paid by DD)

Popped it round - they couldn't have been more suprised.

    Made me feel good.

    Merry Christmas everyone.
