Bosch Dishwasher Real Crap Washing Results.....

Hi I hope I posted this in the right place. I bought my mum a Bosch SGS6612 Dishwasher around 3 years ago. (Still on guarantee from John Lewis). However my mum & I have never been impressed with the washing results. Although the dishes are clean the glasses etc have absolutely no shine and is sometimes dull. My friends dishwashers are completely the opposite... sparkling glasses!
We've tried everything from using powder/liquid power ball different makes etc. The salt & rinse aid are also full and the filters & Jets are clean.
Any advice on how to remedy the problem would be much appreciated. My mums starting to wash by hand again!
Thanks,
Perry

This is a bit odd, we have a very old Bosch dishwasher and it gives very good results.
Have you tried adjusting the amount of rinse aid it uses to the max setting ? We did then then backed it off over a few washes to find the best point for a good result.
Are you sure the inlet / outlet hoses are not restricted in any way ?
Do you make sure nothing is blocking the rotating arm (assuming it has one) when the machine is loaded ?0 -
Hi alanobrien,
Thanks for your reply it’s got to the point where it’s really annoying me now. I'm going to give Bosch a call & see what they say... although they’ll probably say if there’s no fault we’ll charge you.
I tried setting the rinse aid from low to high and no real change. The washes are normally done @ the 50 setting. I took out the filter (the bit in the middle on the bottom) cleaned that and took the bottom arm off gave that a clean also and still the same.
There must be a fault with it, that’s the only thing I can think off.
Thanks,

Hi there
Not sure if I understood properly, but did you mean it was only the glasses that came out a bit dull? If yes, then maybe they are not suitable to go into a dishwasher. I can only think of lead crystal (are you very posh?) as being unsuitable as it's apparently quite soft compared to glass with no lead content, and can go cloudy if put in the dishwasher.
Have you tried calling the helpline number on your dishwasher detergent packaging? They might well have heard this problem before and know what to suggest.0 -
There is a Finish product in the supermarkets which is meant to help keep glassware, looking good LOOK here. I haven't used it because I have no problem with glasses, might be worth a try.
I have the same model as you and I love it. It is quick, quiet and does a good job of all my washing up even on a low temp wash.0 -
Snowyowl,
I wish I was a posh & rich..! No their just ordinary glasses, I think I'll take them to my friends and see how they come up in their Dishwasher but will call Bosch & Finish to see what they recommend to make this go away.
Nearlyrich,
As you have the same model how do your glasses/cutlery come out... Shiny & sparkling?.... One more thing I was told not to use the 3in1 tabs as our dishwasher will also release the rinse aid. Do you use these if so no problems?...
Actually come to think of it the cutlery (forks/knives) comes out dull as well! I've just put another wash on. Let’s see what happens in the morning.Val0 -
You could either try using Glist. Or try putting white vinegar in the rinse dispenser. I do this and glasses gleam! Even managed to impress my daughters LOL"This site is addictive!"

I think another thing to consider is how hard the water is in your area, have you enough dishwasher salt in your machine? When was the last time you used a dishwasher cleaner, those little bottles that u leave in and run a high temperature wash cycle.

g33za could be on to something here.
I have siemens dishwasher which I think is similar to the bosch ones, when we got it we had to set the rinse aid dispenser and also the salt dispense rate. I had to look up the hardness of our water on the water board`s website and then perform the salt adjustment, It is not immediately obvious how to do, we had a hold button a switch on, press button b until the required value is reached type procedure. If you have never done this it may not be softening the washing water properly causing scale to form which would be most obvious on glassware.

The advice about "not using 3 in 1 tabs because the washer will release rinse aid" is tosh. If you run down your salt and rinse aid to zero (not that hard to do) then you can use 3 in 1 tabs perfectly well.
Our Bosch d/washer is fine - no problems with dingy looking glasses!0 -
As said by basill, you have to set the water hardness and rinse aid amounts accordingly.
We have a bosch dishwasher (had it for about a year now) and we get great results by ramping up the water hardness, salt & RA settings to near maximum (we are in Ealing... pretty hard water). I think that there is also a 'detergent recovery' setting... might be worth playing with that?
Even though we use 3-1 products (seems thats all you can get these days) we still put in seperate salt and RA as just having the tablet doesn't seem to cut it!.
You have got it correctly fitted to the water supply... otherwise it might be getting hot water into a cold feed, or it might not be getting enough?
Another point... make sure that you don't put large items near the detergent/RA dispenser as when they open the detergent can be trapped behind a plate/pan and never get into the wash water.
Good luck and let us know if you find the problem, as I'm sure all of us Bosch owners would be interested.Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!0
