Badly Made Shoes?

Not sure which forum to put this in so ive posted here as this is where i frequent most. Sorry to the Mods if its in the wrong place.

I just want to canvass you on your opinions of Clarks Shoes for kids.

Brought a pair of clarks fitted school shoes for my 4 yr old son.
He has them atthe beginig of September to start full time school in and allready the beading on them is falling off and the fronts are almost through. Id expect this of a £5 asda pair but not from a £32 "quality" pair of Clarks shoes.

All in all he has worn them for 32 days and they are knackered.

so am i just being too fussy ? Should i expect them to last longer? are they " fit for the purpose intended" ?

Do you think i'd get anywhere if i took them back and compalined ?

There have been several postings like this on the Ebay boards.
Some posters have complained, i think they claimed that the shoes were not up to the job they were meant for.
Can't remember if they got any joy, but it's worth a try.

It was on the Family Home and Garden board, possibly also about poorly fitted shoes from Clarks.

  • Hey

I had this problem with a pair of shoes i bought (not from Clarks). After 2 weeks and having worn them in the rain once, they became watermarked. I returned them to be told that this was normal and that leather had to be treated! I had paid £50 and was not happy!

I looked into and found that i was covered under the Sales & Goods Act 1979 (I think) that those shoes were not fit for purpose. After a lot of arguing and threatening with trading standards (and being offered vouchers instead of my money back) i got my £50 cash reimbursed and have never shopped there again!

Good luck. It can be done!

  • Hi

If the rest of the shoe is in good condition, then take them back. They can only say no.

If you had a fitting, then take them back. Clark's have a good reputation and they don't like to have dissatisfied clients. I am sure they will change them - if not just write a complaint to their head office at Street, Somerset.
The only possible fly in the ointment could be if you bought them at an outlet shop, where they usually don't do fitting and have a disclaimer notice, but that won't affect your statutory rights.

  • take them back and speak to the manager,

If you have to threatan Trading Standards and not fit for the purpose ETc Etc

Dont let them pull the wool over your eyes.

Beware hough they have got the right to send them off to the manufacturer or Quality Asurane to get hem tested to confirm if they were faulty and they hve 28 days to do this.

    Good luck

    cheers for the advice peeps,

Yep they were brought at clarks shop in town so there shouldnt be a concessions problem

would be a pain if theysent them back though as that will leave son without proper school shoes - though im sure an asda pair would suffice for short term

Worth mentioning this to the manager, may then be more willing to sort out while you are there.

I have always had good after sales service with Clarks, I would take them back.

I used to buy my eldest one Start-rite, the leather cracked on her boots and shoes after a couple on months, they tried to tell me that shoes are only designed to last a few months, but if I bought myself a pair of shoes and paid £40 each for them I would expect them to last. I had to fight them all the way, but I did get new ones eventually.
