I had exactly this problem. Build in wardrobe on outside wall, north east facing. It was always chilly in there and eventually the mould and damp smell started.

I bought a de-humifier in there and problem completely solved. :D I even hang my damp washing in there and it gets dry quick, and all my clothes are slightly warm when I go to get them out, as a result of the very dry air in there.

    Perfect solution.
Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

Curtain pole installed in the living room
    Paint curtain pole
Window quilts for landing window & french door
Add shrink film to the kitchen door & insulate
    Insulate front door
Bubble wrap windows & french door
    Wash front door curtain
    Blind for the bathroom
Find wrist warmers & the wool socks!
    Wash heated throws
    Wash duvet & wool blankets
Buy vest tops to go under clothes and PJs
Buy nets for bathroom and kitchen
Buy or make blind for kitchen

I have seen an airing cupboard with a radiator in it :D The owners had moved the boiler but presumably still wanted a hot cupboard to put clothes, towels, bedding etc, so they had a small radiator installed... But unless you are a plumber, I guess this isn't a cheap option :D Great idea tho

Stumbled across THIS today and remembered your thread. Read the reviews on the argos website only 120W as well so just like having a high wattage bulb on.
If at first you don't succeed - destroy all evidence that you tried.

I think form reading the OP post its a built in cupboard - "being used as a wardrobe" indicates that to me - could be wrong though

I wouldnt say down the drain, Id say along with increasing ventilation and heating they do help keep the problem at bay - not cure

We dont have anything external which is causing the damp and mould - just the sheer size of room and where the cupboard is. Huge room. built in wardrobe and the rads at the other end of the room - hence one corner gets very cold and damp if the doors to the wardrobe are kept shut

Now we have extra heating in the house amd we can keep that door open less we have guests the problem is solved

Yes, its a built in cupboard/wardrobe on a north east facing wall, placed exactly as above, a large room with radiator far away. Same situation and same problem.

Thanks very much for remembering my problem! Do you think this comes with a plug or you have to wire it in? Any idea? The reviews or the product info did not give this away.

    Many thanks!
