Broken LG TV

I recently returned my LG hd ready TV to Richer sounds where it was bought after it suddenly stopped working!
They told me that the repair would take a maximum of 3 weeks and cost £40 as the tv was 4 days out of warranty even though it was not used until the end of January this year!!!!!!
After not hearing from them after 4 i gave them a call.
I was told that the TV was in the back store room and was not able to be repaired, they then told me that there was nothing else they could do! After complaining to the staff member he suggested that i come in to speak with the manager.
I am going to go in later this afternoon to speak with him but was wondering if anyone knew where i stand? The TV was very expensive and was undoubtedly expected to last for considerably more than 12 months!!
HELP PLEASE!!!!!

If it has an inherent fault, i.e. not caused by you they will have to do something about it0 -
would that still apply with it being out of warranty?0

Yes, but as the fault occured more than 6 months after you bought it you need an 'engineers report' stating it was an inherent fault and not misuse, the cost of which should be met by RS if it is an inherent fault.0 -

Did you not have time to read what I posted?0 -
If it is out of warranty, the problem should be dealt with by LG, not Richer Sounds.
Contact LG and see what they have to say.0 -

For something like a TV, a strict 12 month warranty is unreasonable.
The TV must last what any reasonable person would consider to be 'a reasonable length of time' - and that is most certainly not exactly 12 months.
Although they all try it on, the seller is responsible (not the manufacturer) and, from the post immediately above this, Richer Sounds are well aware of that.
Take them to court.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Or ask them nicely to sort the issue for you;)0 -

true however after the 1 year warranty its up to the customer to prove that the fault isn't by use and it was a manufacturing fault which means getting a independent engineer to look at the tv (at your cost) then from his findings you need to send that to richer sounds stating if the problem isn't resolved within 10 working days or so then your going to go to the small claims court. They wont want to go there so they will offer a settlement:TOP pot £141.920
