The DHL people were very helpful. I forgot to print out the airbill so the system didn't generate one, so I rang them; they made a new one for me and emailed it to me in time. Then I called them to ask when approximately they'd collect the document; the woman put me on hold, called the driver, and gave me the timeframe of 14 - 16 hours. He came just after 14!

I should correct the part in red. It's not DHL I called, but Transglobal Express.0 -

Its not the fact that its still in their depot that is bothering me so much as the fact that they have blatantly lied about delivery attempts 3 times.
Do you have the tracking number? OU should be able to supply you with one.0 -

I should think that highly unlikely, DHL are one of the biggest Express Couriers companies in the world so there's no way HDN could buy them out, likely to be the other way around if anything.
The trouble with all courier delivery firms is they are reliant on an individual to be conscientious when it comes to final delivery and either getting the item properly signed for, leaving it in a "Safe" place or leaving a note and bringing it back to the depot. This, unfortunately, does not always happen as many stories we hear about on forums such as this etc confirm.
Also, with DHL, and probably others, they often use a local "Man with a Van" (or Car) to deliver pkgs within their locality and I know for a fact that they pay them less per delivery for certain larger customers (To keep costs to a minimum - which, I'm afraid, is what most of us want when we order or send something for delivery) so it could be rather a disinsentive for the delivery driver to go the extra mile and get the required signature etc if they are being awarded less for it - it all adds to their time getting signatures etc.
Sorry this is no consolation but home deliveries are notoriously problematic, I know this from past experience in the industry. However from what I see now, I do believe things have improved in recents years when it comes to reliability but there's still always going to problems from time to time.0 -

Thing is they havent even left a card. I am going by the tracking info on their website which states they attempted and left a card. Neither of which they have done. And I thought Hermes were bad....'If honour were profitable, every man would be honourable' Thomas More

I can't say that I've had any problems with DHL but all my parcels seem to come via a little old woman who must be a self employed courier. She knows me by name now which obviously means I buy too much online :rotfl:.
It was DHL who delivered my Boots goodies yesterday and today. Est delivery was 7th January.
That said, they took 10 days to ship my Matalan order. There was bad weather but I was annoyed that the tracking had updated to say that the package was in Edinburgh. I was all set to pick it up, called to make sure that they weren't going to deliver as I was heading through. I then found out it was still in England. England, Edinburgh, no difference!!!!:mad:0 -
Not DHL but UPS for me, waiting in for a delivery today. Saw a UPS van sitting in traffic outside my flat, then it disappeared round the corner. Checked my tracking information - customer not in on 1st attempt a 2nd attempt will be made:mad: Not much good to me as i won't be in tomorrow. Blooming useless, phoned customer services and the first girl i spoke to was very unhelpful. Phoned back and got a lovely girl, still waiting on her to call me back though:cool:The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

In the meantime, my document has arrived. Eastbourne to Small Town in Southern Austria, less than 24 hours. Nice!0

Well i finally got my UPS parcel delivered at about 4pm. But i have just had a text from DHL saying they tried to deliver my parcel but i wasnt in:mad: Argh, i have waited in all day:(The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

January 2010: Home Delivery Network buys DHL's UK parcel operation N.B. Just the UK Parcels bit.
