DHL couriers - anyone have any experience with them ?

I am waiting on Open University coursework being delivered by DHL. On the 18th of December they claim to have called at 11.51am and no one was in so they left a card. They then claim to have tried again at 13.23 and again left a card. I was out at these times but no card has been left in order for me to arrange delivery, so have they even bothered to try and deliver at all?
Yesterday, at 15.41 they again claim they attempted delivery, no one was in and they left a card. There was someone in my house all day yesterday and the buzzer didnt ring once. And no card has been left. I dont know what to do as I have no means of contacting them about rearranging delivery since no card has been left, and to be honest it doesnt look like they even bothered in the first place.
I only have a customer service number which i cant get through to. I have e mailed them twice but have had no response. Has anyone had any expierience with DHL as couriers? Will they just keep claiming they have tried to deliver or will they eventually send it back to the sender? I dont want that to happen as I dont want the Open University to assume I no longer want to do the course.
Ive just had a nightmare like this with Hermes, now it looks like its starting again. Are there no decent courier companies out there for heavens sake.

Call the OU delivery dept, they will sort it out, and query it with DHL and if need be send you another set. Look on your home page and you can link through to the delivery info, and then pick up their number.
DHL claimed to have delivered my coursework to me and that I'd signed for it. Had a very precise delivery time recorded. Very clever of me seeing as I was in work several miles away at the time. I couldn't query directly with DHL, they would only deal with the sender, but the OU were pretty good on the case. I have no idea what happened about the original package in the end, but the OU sent me another set - by a different courier :-) that arrived fine.
Don't panic. It happens quite a lot and the OU don't blink an eye. Just get in touch with them, they will kick DHL up the bum.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
I have had trouble with dhl.
1st occasion was around 3 months ago. Parcel was out for delivery and i waitied in all day.rang them up at 8.00pm and was told it was out for delivery and they deliver up to 9pm and not to worry as it would definately be delivered. Was never delivered and was told the van broke down. Around 2 weeks after this had exactly the same as above, and the van broke down that time as well. always after i phone up lol.Started advent comps 04.12.2013

I've had plenty experience with them.........almost all bad.
Don't waste your time trying to phone as you'll never get to speak to anyone who knows anything about your parcel (that's if you get to speak to anyone at all).
Best bet is to go to the regional office where your parcel is being held and get it that way.
I think they only attempt delivery 2 or 3 times then it just sits there.
They had something of mine since the 5th of December.......no notes, no delivery. Had to make a 40 mile round trip yesterday to pick it up.0 -
I have had awful problems with DHL - a delivery from M&S was scheduled for delivery on 13th Dec and I waited in all day - no delivery so I emailed them and their system promised a response within 1 business day but to date I have had no response. Spoke to M&S who chased it and rang me to say delivery would be on 17th or 18th Dec - nothing arrived. Spoke to M&S again on 20th Dec and they chased DHL again and also forwarded my telephone number to DHL. Today I have received an email from M&S saying that the goods have been returned by me and they have credited my account. The goods never got to me to return and DHL never even attempted to contact me ! I have written to M&S asking for their comments!0

I ordered loads of stuff from Boots for christmas, specifically paying the £4.50 for next day delivery. Waited in the whole day they said it would be here. No show. Checked the tracking, said that the "consignee could not be reached."
I called Boots the next day and they said that means DHL attempted delivery but no one was there to sign for it. I told them, I have been in my house all day and nobody at all came. Boots gave me a refund and the parcel turned up a day later. :mad:I'm still driving away and I'm sorry everyday,
I won't always love these selfish things.0 -
The DHL parcel business has been bought out by Home Delivery Network and they are currently merging the two services.
I found this out from our regular DHL delivery man at work when I asked why the deliveries from one of our big suppliers were now going to be coming via Parcelforce when DHL have had the contract for 20 odd years.
It's just pot luck at present as to whether your parcel comes through the actual DHL parcel service delivered by a DHL employee or whether it is assigned to a self-employed delivery person.Freebies Received: Supersavvyme bag, Olay moisturiser, Barbara Daly/Tesco Mascara, Seeds of Change Choccie, Yorkshire Tea Kenyan teabags, Tesco mobile sim cards x 2.
Won: Yorkshire Tea goodie box0 -
I finally received a reply to one of the e mails I sent, stating that the parcel was in their depot and they would get it to me asap. No explanation for why the driver has stated 3 times he has tried to deliver it but hasnt been anywhere near my house with it.
I checked the tracking information again last night and yep, you guessed it, driver tried to deliver at 13.11 and left a card. I cant believe that the driver is blatantly lying about this, what does he have to gain from pretending he is trying to deliver it. DHL used to be really good in the UK and I have had exceptional service in the past (particularly DHL express from Europe)... but since the changes its a bit rubbish. All DHL parcels to me now come by a self-employed person.0

I too have only good experiences with DHL. I've only used them for international deliveries, and they've been excellent. I book them through a company called Transglobal, which lets you choose your courier service. I used DHL to send a walker to my mum in South America by airmail. It git there in five days -- it would have taken months via ship, without tracking. I was able to track it all the way to her doorstep!
My husband's mother sent a Christmas package per DHL, and a card with money in it on the same day, by normal post. The DHL package got here in three days; the card still hasn't arrived.
I sent an important document, potentially worth up to EUR 10000, to a town in Austria by Airsure, not realising that even Airsure is delayed over Christmas. It had to arrive by 31st December to be still valid. I posted it on the 20th. I tracked it to it's arrival in Austria on the 22nd, and there it stopped. When I realised that both Christmas Eve AND December 31st are holidays in Austria, I decided to make double sure and send it again via DHL. It left yesterday and will arrive at its destination today; right now it's in Munich. I like the way you can track it every step of the way!
The DHL people were very helpful. I forgot to print out the airbill so the system didn't generate one, so I rang them; they made a new one for me and emailed it to me in time. Then I called them to ask when approximately they'd collect the document; the woman put me on hold, called the driver, and gave me the timeframe of 14 - 16 hours. He came just after 14!
Do Airsure really confirm delivery? Because according to the Royal Mail tracking system the first envelope hasn't arrived yet, and most likely won't today, the last day of validity, tomorrow being closed down.
It's such a relief to know that my document will get there on time. It cost me £25 as against £7 by Airsure. But I would have been in panic by now if I hadn't DHL'd it!0 -
Im still getting nowhere with them. It seems my coursework is now just sitting about in their depot, and they wont reply to my e mails. I have contacted the OU to try and get them to sort it out.
Its not the fact that its still in their depot that is bothering me so much as the fact that they have blatantly lied about delivery attempts 3 times.'If honour were profitable, every man would be honourable' Thomas More
