Yeh just I'm terrible with money and cash weekly doesn't help. Guna ask boss if he can get paid monthly. Much easier to budget that way!
I don't understand this. You KNOW how much you're going to be paid so you CAN budget. If the problem is that you're spending it on fripperies then that isn't going to stop just because you get paid monthly.
Set up a spreadsheet with money coming in and out and start doing a spending diary so you know exactly where your money's going.0 -
my problem is for example. one week i need to pay £100 to bank to cover DD, so then ive got £110 'spare'.
the following week ill need to pay in £210 to bank to cover DD and then ill have no money for food petrol etc...0 -
Try and add up the expenses you have in a month, divide by 4 and then pay that much of his weekly wage into the bank, then what is left can be spent.
E.g £40 gas means £10p/w to bank, not £40 the week it is due.Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0 -
But if you got paid monthly, there's a good chance it would be in arrears, so you'd be in a worse position.
It may be possible to talk to the companies you're paying by DD and get the date moved as late as possible e.g. I pay my water bill at the end of the month, rather than the beginning. That would give you time during the month to set the money aside.0 -
You really really need to shop around for car insurance. At 18 I wasn't even paying that much on a 1.6 pluriel. The mobile phone bill also needs to be drastically reduced as others have said. The grocery bill is also massive!
Then you need to sit down and have a serious look at your finances. It is coming across on here that you seem to be finding excuses for not doing this.
There is no guarantee that your OH will walk straight into a job after graduating, especially with the salary you are claiming. You need to look at the here and now to sort your finances, not the future job/earning assumption.Overdrafts transferred to MBNA £953.40/£4279.80 Car insurance (on CC) £461.98/£751.98  Bank of mum and dad £1500/£5000Total debt repaid £2915.38/£10,031.78 (29%):T Owed [STRIKE]£10,031.78[/STRIKE][STRIKE] £7400[/STRIKE] £7116.40 Pay off as much as you can in 2011 challenge £1127.60/£40000 -

My point exactly. I left uni with a law degree from a good university and thought i'd walk straight into a job earning good money but instead I was unemployed for 6 montha and now on a training scheme earning £13k.
I'm not saying this will happen to your other half, but don't be relying on this sort of salary.0 -
I really do think things have to be looked at realistically. Yes, he may well walk into a job BUT there are lots and lots of graduates who can't get employed in their graduate career. My OH has been trying for 4 years and the only offers are unpaid experience, so he has been 'stuck' in retail on a low salary for all this time. I also have many friends who trained with me at university to become teachers who can't get a job for love nor money, many who are even going as far as relocating if they can find a job.
There are no guarantees and in a saturated job market with so many more graduates being churned out things may get worse.Overdrafts transferred to MBNA £953.40/£4279.80 Car insurance (on CC) £461.98/£751.98  Bank of mum and dad £1500/£5000Total debt repaid £2915.38/£10,031.78 (29%):T Owed [STRIKE]£10,031.78[/STRIKE][STRIKE] £7400[/STRIKE] £7116.40 Pay off as much as you can in 2011 challenge £1127.60/£40000 -
Forget I said anything about future jobs! Trust me iv searched and searched and searched for cheaper car INS I cannot find anything now below £1500! It's insane I haven't a clue why. I have 3 points from 3 years ago that's all.
Mobile I'm going to reduce month by month but they're both on £45pm tariffs ATM.
I'm really trying just seem to be in a no win situation.0 -
Been speaking to OH and the only way we can do this is to spend only £140 pm on food and £40 on petrol. It's doable- will just have to walk more. We will use 'extra' money to pay for mot, tax etc and think about paying off debts in full when we have both finished Uni. Have nothin to give them extra now!!0

Anything that comes into my bank in January is for paying February's bills, all I do id set the money aside in a 2nd account until I need it.
Okay, I move it about and make the most money from it, but you need simple. Start with a budget, and stick to it!
Take the money out of an account and use envelopes!
My 80 year old grandmother get's paid weekly and splits her monthly costs 4 ways, and sets it aside! Every 3 months you get an extra week... and you are ££££ in!!!We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240
