Online games or activities for adult with learning disabilities

I'm going to be spending much of the next week with an adult with LD and want to plan a few activities to stop him sitting in front of the telly quite so much but also to take the pressure off his mother for a while. It will be hard to go out because of the snow (but I plan at least one snowball fight!!) so I have bought quite a few things for us to do together, model making, drawing/painting which he loves, as well as some cooking ideas. I'm also going to take my laptop and wonder if anyone knows of any basic but not childish games I could play with him, or any other online activities. I've googled but not come up with much - to my surprise. I will be using a dongle as they don't have broadband so anything will either have to be basic or something I can download before I go.

Anybody any tried and trusted ideas?

Thanks

DS

  • Not games as such, but you can find some good origami instructions online which I have found quite successful in the past - including ones for Christmas decorations.

Yep - Coronation St and Emmerdale!!! He used to like anything to do with art or design, so am hoping to rekindle that interest. Or even start a new interest - not sure what though.
  • How about club penguin?

My son loves playing. It has a form of social networking on it, but my son hasn't any idea of that. He just clicks a lot and goes into different games and saves up for a puffle.
  • I work with adults with learning difficulties and one week the tutor brought in the laptop with some photo editing software on it and they used the webcam to take pictures of themselves and then edited the photo's - colour effects etc. They all loved it and we had great fun.

Photos are a fave with the adults I work with too and he could make a video or slide show.

Do you have a camera he could use to take photos when you go out and about? Or he could take photos of his family/area he lives and make a slide show from them...?

If he likes music, he could add that to it as well.

If he is anything like the guys I work with, he will love karaoke too, if you're up for a sing song...?
  • Probably not suitable for adults, but my son loves https://www.starfall.com - he can listen to stories as well as read them.

Bubbleshooter might be worth looking at, if you don't mind something that is just for fun and not particularly educational.
  • He might enjoy this doodling program - Bomomo. I know I do! And the classic Sober Santa 2 is seasonal and fun.
  • Not bothered about educational - fun is what I had in mind, it's Christmas after all. But if it takes him out of his telly-based comfort zone all well and good too. It's likely we'll be housebound for the duration as he has already fallen badly once and is a hefty great man - I'm not heaving him back onto his feet! Thanks for the helpful ideas, really great.
