Note, Spybot is a good program but it is not a virus checker.
You will also need a virus checker if you have downloaded Spybot only.
If you're prepared to try out a commercial checker, why not take a look at Kaspersky.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 trial
Who knows, you may even like it enough to buy it at the end of the trial period

AVG is the best virus checker by a mile and its free.
Get Adaware and/or spybot search&destroy for spyware removal.
Get Ccleaner for tidying your pc up and sorting out registry problems.
Go to download.com and click on pc starter kit on the menu on the left all the programs you should need and have are there.0 -
Avast is also another good free anti virus.0

I use avast! too, used the free home edition for a few months, then liked it so much, I bought the pro

Heads up, Spybot S&D isnt a virus checker, it's a spyware program.Rudi wrote:http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/?ref=google1
Try Spybot - Search and Destroy.
I have used this for 3 years and have had no problems. It's free and there's a weekly update.0 -
I have tried both AVG and Avast, and stick with the latter now. Both work, try them both and see, both free for personal use.
Also use Spybot and AdAware to remove adware/spyware, together with Windows Defender.
To clean up PC use CCleaner and 4Diskclean.
Have loads of free software, if you know where to look there is virtually nothing you can't get legally and free. Download.com is a good place to start if you use the Freeware filters. I keep meaning to do a detailed post about free software, also use OpenOffice instead of MS Office (save loads and better!) Firefox, Thunderbird blah blah blah.
Hope this helps.0
