i check mine every Sunday as a minimum, usually alternate days during the week. I update my monthly accounts before payday so i know what the next month is going to be like, finalise when OH has his payday. Then check all the items off to make sure it all goes through ok. I also update my records every time i spend on cards etc and then check to make sure entries are through. I never use what the bank says i have available, i use what my records say my balance is as it always shows the balance after everything has gone out.
I panic if i haven't checked it for a few days and just don't understand people who don't use internet banking.
  • Me, online banking & the spreadsheet - everyday! :D

Usually have Sundays off as not much happens in banking land on Sundays...
I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions...
  • I check daily
  • I'm so glad i'm not alone!! Maybe I should start another thread about how geeky our spreadsheets are!!
    :)
  • I check my Accounts Tuesday - Saturday (nothing happens on Sundays and Mondays) but update my spreadsheet daily, and sometimes spend hours a day on it!

    Don't get me started!
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

  • Oh my, this thread's hilarious....and comforting ;)

I check all my online accounts daily on weekdays, but tend to take a break over weekends. I make daily payments into savings so I do it all at the same time, checking balances....and yes, updating my spreadsheet.

My spreadsheet is pretty geeky, containing a number of concurrent worksheets:

    1. Monthly current account and regular expenditure & due dates
    2. Credit card spends, balance & cashback accrued
    3. Savings page for balances on ISA, Monthly Saver and House deposit saver
    4. Notes page listing all account details (i.e. interest rates, special promotions, status of pensions, total available credit and amount used, list of annual expenditures and dates due, like car MOT etc)
    5. SOAs including any potential future changes in monthly income/expenditure
    6. sheets for working out potential mortgage amounts me and DH could afford and what deposits we need to save

    And currently it also contains:

    7. 'honey' page (as we're selling our bees' honey to pay for new hives)
    8. 'xmas' page (listing all gifts to budget for, and for whom)
    9. 'cigs' page (how much money myself and DH have saved stopping smoking in July of this past year.

    Er...so yes. Sad. :D

  • I am a really sad case.
I don't do on line banking since I don't want someone hacking into my details.
I am still in the Captain Mainwaring banking timewarp.
If I ask my bank at the counter for a mini statement ( last ten transactions) this costs £1. If I request the mini statement from the Cash Machine outside it's free!
So, every day at lunch time, even if I know that there have been no transactions due on my account, I stop at the machine and get a mini statement. Makes me feel good that I have saved £1 and it has cost these money grabbing b's to provide me with the service.

Sad, but I get a great satisfaction from it.

I check most days online or by telephone banking :):) ... And I have a spreadsheet too! :):):)

I can now usually tell you exactly what's in my bank account to the penny!

Before my DMP, I had no idea how much money I had in my account - head in sand and all that. I just spent it and 'hoped for the best' :o and it took way too long for me to realise that's not a great approach ;) ... I now love having a bank account that's always in credit (even if it's 1p the day before payday).

  • Every single day. I even have a handy iphone app to check it wherever I am.
I too was once a head in the sand person. I never really knew the status of either of my accounts....which is how I ended up getting myself overdrawn to the £2k limits on both of them
