No Audio On 3GS Video Playback

As the title says, really. My wife was trying to watch a video on her 3GS the other day and there was no sound. She then watched the same video via our PC and the sound was fine. I gave the phone a quick once over and couldn't find anything obvious. I then tried downloading stuff from youtube and those videos had the same problem. Ringtones are fine, though. I've suggested a visit to a Genius bar but I think she would prefer not to go through the hassle if there's a quick fix.

Any ideas, anyone?

  • Hi there
I know it sounds silly, but have you checked the volume on the side, also check in the settings menu Settings>volume limit.

Does your music play ok ?
  • Volume switch on side makes no difference, already checked. Volume in Settings is almost on max, so no joy there, unfortunately. I did read somewhere that it might be to do with Bluetooth so I'll check that when I get home. I have no idea why my wife would have that on, though, unless she's been fiddling and put it on accidentally.

tell us about the video, did you convert it yourself? from anywhere eg. DVD/.flv/.avi? or was it bought from the itunes store? what did you use to convert it?
  • It was a video loaded onto Facebook by her daughter. No conversion involved. It isn't just that one, though, because I tried watching stuff on youtube and it was the same.

that definitely rules out a wrong audio codec then, the silent switch isn't on is it (if you can see an orange dot it is)? also to rule out a broken speaker does the phone ring? or you can use the loudspeaker mode in a call? or any other sound eg in safari?
  • All other sounds (system etc) are fine. I think a visit to a Genius Bar is going to be the only option. Getting an appointment with one at this time of year should be fun, though!

Thanks for the suggestions, by the way.
