Download from a USB Memory Stick

 I have just bought a music single on a 512mb USB memory stick. I played the music on my pc via Windows Media Player and would like to rip it onto my PC but it doesn't want to rip it?
I would also then like to capitalise on the memory clean the music off the stick and back up some important files, is this possible and can someone offer some guidance please

  • I don't know about ripping. To wipe it, see if post 9 here applies. And wipe at your own risk.
  • It may well be copy protected?

Thanks for that, the othere MSEer seems to be able to get more from his USB than me. Seems a waste of a memory stick to just put some music on

Do you know if there is a way round this, I am sure they knew people would want to use up the rest of the memory?

So exactly what have you tried to do? Have you used windows explorer to move files from or to the USB stick? The music is not copy protected according to this article.

Thank you, you know what I am asking.
I placed the USB into my pc and the music plays fine. I then tried to rip the music onto my pc via Media Player......... Won't allow it. I then tried to burn the record onto a CD............. Won't allow it. Can't get my head around where to go from here:confused:

Forget media player. Insert the stick and if media player starts up, shut it down immediately. Invoke windows explorer - Start, right click explore and you should see your USB stick listed most probably as a removable drive, with it's own drive letter i.e. G: Then simply cut, paste, copy, move etc. files to and from the device just like you would with any other file!
