Memory stick issue

Ladies and Gents,

Ive just got a free memory stick with this months (Nov) issue of Pokerplayer, £1.50 for the mag tho.

Anyway the stick is sponsered by betfair poker, and despite formating the stick everytime I plug it in it instantly starts IE and takes me to the betfair website, is there anyway of disabling this feature on the stick or alternatively on the pc, its only a mild annoyance so if it cant be done I'll stick with it.

All the best

I've been given one by Tote Casino and have been hunting for instructions on how to wipe it clean. No joy so far. I will be watching this thread with interest.

Check in My Computer whether it has 2 partitions (drive letters). One is read-only and runs automatically and opens the Betfair/Tote web site when you plug it in. The other partition is a normal USB drive and you can write files to it.

Your USB memory drive is possibly what's called a 'U3 Smart drive'; see official web site http://www.u3.com/. You can delete the read-only partition and therefore delete the autorun feature permanently by downloading an uninstaller. You can also prevent the autorun from running when you insert the drive. See items 2, 3 and 4 at http://www.u3.com/support/default.aspx. Use the U3 uninstaller at your own risk, though there's no reason why it would mess up your drive as this is the official U3 uninstaller.

There are also guides on the web to modify the read-only partition and create your own autorun feature, e.g. here (instructions are for a SanDisk drive - use at your own risk on yours).

check the option to view hidden files, it might be a hidden *.bat file on the USB stick
