I do not really. What can be a sign of it?

You may find that you have a problem if your car will not start. :rotfl::D

My car battery is 8 years old and the car never fails to turn over first time.

Car sits out in all weathers and may not move for a week at a time.

Unless there is some problem I see no reason to worry.

Short journeys put a hell of a drain on the battery. Starting the car takes a fair bit of juice, especially in this weather when, as a previous poster mentioned, the engine probably won't burst into life straight away. You then need to go on a decent run, at least 15 - 20 minutes to recharge the battery. Anything electrical that's running ( lights, demisters, fans etc ) will reduce the amount of current that goes into charging the battery.

Starting the car and leaving it idling on the drive is a no-no. Quite apart from not being all that good for the engine, there'll be very little current generated at tickover speed, so you'll barely charge the battery at all.

If you're not using the car for a while, the best solution is to get a decent charger and leave it on trickle-charge.

The only other thing to watch out for, which I've fallen foul of in the past - when you leave the car, make sure no interior lights are on. Sounds daft, but the two favourites are a boot lid not quite closed, or else a dodgy switch in the boot, so that the boot light stays on - particularly bad as you won't notice until it's too late. The other one is kids who fiddle with the interior switches so the lights are permanently on :-) OK, you *should* notice this, but ......

Especially in the winter, when any battery doesn't perform so well, if you know you're going to leave the car for a few days, you might want to simply lock it (you know, maybe with a key in a door the old fashioned way) instead of setting the alarm. The alarm, and associated sensors, can be quite a drain on the battery over a long period, depending on car model, age, battery, weather etc. I had a 2002 Celica, which has quite a small battery for a 1.8 engine to save weight, and the healthy battery was flattened after 2 weeks' holiday!

However, many cars cannot (now) be simply locked, many do not even have key slots, such is the price of progress:A
