o2 phone and home broadband

Hi there. I am currently with BT and we are paying about 40 per month for phone and internet (i think included in this is unlimited to calls to landlines.)

I feel this is quite expensive so we are thinking of moving to O2 in Jan, as we are both O2 customer for mobiles anyone so should get a good deal.

Just wondering if anyone is currently with O2 and has had any good / bad experiences?

Many thanks!

They're not quite knights in shining armour.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I have been with 02 for over a year now, cheap and no problems at all.
I have only had to call the call centre once and they were very helpful and UK based.
Would recommend them. Also when I joined there was a great topcashback/quidco deal so would check that out before you apply, see if there's anything worth having.
  • I agree. have been with O2 since April. No problem with switch, a few niggles with advertised speed and actual speed but o2 were proactive and reduced our tariff because of this.

Any help I have needed has been done quickly without any problems at all.

So IMO, O2 are as good as BT!Only cheaper. I pay £21 a month for line rental, any time calls and unlimited BB.

Do you not have to have Broadband to have the telephone service? ie; you cannot have one without the other?

Do they still charge extra for Caller Display?
  • yes, and yes (CD is £1.75 a month).

You get 'discount' if you have a mobile phone too. I do so it becomes cheaper for us to use o2 for BB and Internet.

No cable option in our area so Virgin isn't an alternative

OP, are you talking about 02 LLU service or O2 Access? The former is great, the latter is dire-two very different things.
Check on https://www.samknows.com if your exchange is LLU'd for 02.

I switched a few months ago and I have to say no problems so far (other than me forgetting to top up my o2 P&G sim) even so @ £30 for both unlimited anytime calls, 14mb BB and 500 international minutes (to selected countries) its still a bargain IMO.

Please don't say that as if it's a compliment!

Could somebody explain if there are technical reasons why the o2 access package is dire relative to o2 packages with LLU (ignoring cost differences)? Or is it just due to the relatively basic spec of the o2 access package at 20Gb cap/8Mb speed?

Nothing to do with the spec. It's because it's a non-LLU service running on the BT network. Contention issues are the main problem. Believe me, a 20GB cap will not be an issue on this service, as you'd never get enough bandwidth to use 20GB a month!
