2nd SKY HD Subscription - Any advice welcome.

Hi Guys,

I'm not a newbie, I used to be under Vickyb242, but can no longer access my account as I have forgotten my password! SO I have had to create a new account.

I have a quick question regarding SKY HD, hoping someone can help me.

We have SKY HD in the living room, and SKY+ in the bedroom. We want to upgrade the bedroom to HD, but have just been told it's going to cost £199 for a new HD Box.
Have seen a few threads just saying to buy a second hand box of of ebay etc, then upgrade the subscription over the phone? But I'm not sure how they will let me add the HD Package if they now I have not bought a HD Box from them?

I just tried to add the HD package only through my online sky account and it said "unable to add HD Package without HD Box"? Not sure if there is a way round this? I really cannot afford £199 right now.

You'll need to call Sky & ask them to remove the Sky+ box (make sure you have the serial number & card number) & then manually add the new Sky HD box in it's place,then to pair the card from the old box to the new box.

This is how a box swap on a service call used to be done iirc

Be warned though that the multiroom sub does not cover HD and you will need to pay for a 2nd HD sub for the box if you want the full HD package on it. I.E £10 multiroom + £10 HD sub box 1 + £10 HD sub box 2.
