I haven't used jump leads for 30+ years and am having a memory blank.
Is the following correct:
Feeder car - ensure engine has been running for 10-15 mnutes before I attach leads to my car.
Attach red jump leads to mine and feeder car positive output
Attach remaining lead to negative on feeder car and anywhere else on my car not touching the battery.
Thanks

i would always put the negitive on first
on the feeder car negetive battery terminal and then your negetive terminal on battery ( not advisable to stick it anywhere on car as you may not get a good enough earth
then connect the red (positive to your terminal and then to the feed terminal0 -
Cheers Hubert
When I stated anywhere I meant away from the battery and fuel system0 -
well i would connect the black(negitive) to the - battery terminals
the reason i put the + on the flat battery first is if you do it the other way round it sparks like a bitcch0 -
Never had an engine running for 15 minutes before using jump leads.
Just ensure it is running!0 -
its wirth leaving them connected for a while if the battery is really flat
if its really flat and you disconnect really early it can fry the alternator by subjecting it to a huge load as it struggles to run the whole car, injectors and everthing etc, so best to have nothing on as well ie no lights heater and things that you dont need0 -

Wrong.
You should connect the negative cable to the negative terminal on the good battery but clamp it to a bolt/metal bracket etc on the other car nowhere near its battery.0 -
Good car positive to Dead car positive.
Good car negative to Dead car metal earthing point on engine.
Whether you start the good car is neither here nor there. Just wait 60 seconds after connection to start the dead car.The man without a signature.0 -
i had heard about the grounding it to the block but have never actually done it my self0

It's going to spark a little whether you go neg to earth or neg to neg. Grounding to block keeps the sparks away from the battery. When I jump start a strange car I always hunt around for a engine point first and practice fitting the jump leads to it.
I find that grounding to block is for some reason more efficient at starting the dead car.The man without a signature.0 -
could be petrol and oil on the block but i cant imagine it exploding0
