YOKOHAMA, Japan (Reuters). A man has suffered severe burns after a gas explosion at a Nissan storage facility near their global headquarters in Nishi-ku, Yokohama.

An initial investigation suggests that a gas leak, the source of which has not yet been identified, occurred in a poorly ventilated room used for storing gearbox parts for various 70s and early 80s models. Stock supervisor Ataru Moroboshi entered the room during his break and attempted to light a cigarette. The sparks from Mr. Moroboshi's lighter ignited the gas causing an explosion.

Miraculously Mr. Moroboshi survived the explosion and is currently being treated in Juzen Teaching Hospital for second degree burns.

Speaking to Reuters through an interpreter, Mr. Moroboshi described the aftermath of the explosion:

"It was raining Datsun cogs", said Mr. Moroboshi.
