Have you or did you own a Jailbroken iPhone?

I have seen a recent new app that does unlocking but personally I'd never ever Jailbreak my iPhone, I may be over protective but your opening yourself up to a huge amount of problems and I value Apple to high to go off on a third party software app.

I'd rather pay for my apps and stick to the network I bought my iPhone on; would or have you?

I can't really see much point in getting an iPhone and then trying to hack the firmware and customise it. The point of Apple products are that they're a walled garden. You get it the Apple way at the Apple price or no way at all.

Your opinion is typical of an iPhone user, and there's nothing wrong with that. I prefer a bit more freedom to experiment and am tolerant of bugs so Android suits me.

I remember having a Jailbroken 1st gen years back, it was awful ran so slow till I did a restore in iTunes which killed it and it was bricked.

I paid £350 for my new iPhone the other week and wouldn't ever jailbreak it, and as of yet, I'm yet to be tempted into using a dock not made by Apple to charge my iPhone, seems dodgy to me.

Plus if anything went wrong I know Apple warranty will be there, couldn't be asked with the worry of jailbreaking - not interested at the least! :)

Jailbreaking and unlocking are 2 different things.

Unlocking means you can use you iPhone on a different network, so if you're out of contract you can move to a better deal on a different network.

Jailbreaking means you can put none Apple authorised Apps onto you iPhone and/or Apps thatvyou haven't paid for onto it.

Now I've unlocked my iPhone, I did it via O2 (cost £15) and I'm now using it on T-Mobile; I haven't jailbroken my iPhone, I've never found I needed to.

IMHO there is nothing wrong doing either, I'd even advise to unlock it if you can, it makes the phone more usable can swop sims change networks. Plus if you want to try an make more use of the Tech in the iphone then jailbreak it (you are opening yourself up to some more risk, since the Apps havent been passed by Apple) it's only the downloading App's which you haven't paid for that's wrong.
  • Ive always JB my iphones makes it a lot more customisable i would miss SBSettings the most where you swipe the top of the phone so you can switch on or off wifi/3G/autolock/location etc. Each to there own and all that.
