Indeed! Perhaps i should kick that fag habit too which is the reason why I tried to open the window (after lighting one doh!)

My MOT is due the first week of Jan, and Im not sure if showing up with a cello-taped window will be a good look :o

    lol

I keep doing the same bar my Window is frozen solid !

This morning at 4:45am i got into my car and it showed -11c

This is the first morning she struggled to start. Not because of the battery but i think the diesel had started to wax.

I had the same thing when I had a MK4. If you can use a screwdriver then it's not a difficult job to do. You just need to take the door card off and replace the regulator. Cost about £60 for the parts and an hour of your time.
  • Believe me we tried to get the metal part of the door off, we got all the bolts off but because of the torques (i think thats whatchucallem) we couldnt actually take it off. Had a quote from one guy who could do it for £90 and he would come out to where I was. Might ask him to do both, because as this is a common problem, i would be dreading the driver side falling in too.

Oh God the infamous MK IV Golf window regulator problem. My first one went when the car was a 3 y.o but VW customer "care" wouldn't cough up a good will payment and they won't admit it's a design fault even though they changed the design back from the crappy curtain clips fairly quickly.

My partner got one and fitted it for me. The passenger side went about 3 months after that.

You've done pretty well for yours to last this long - how old's the car?
  • LOL! Almost every common fault the MK4's have has happened to me in the last year that Ive had the car, though luckily nothing major. VW were pretty cheap not to have replaced yours after only 3 years, lucky for u your partner had the know how!

My car is 10 years old, so all in all I think Ive done ok so far.

A guy is coming out tomorrow to sort both windows out at my workplace, and he is charging £167 including parts and labour, which is the cheapest of all the quotes ive had by a mile.
