Moped - what else do I need?

Agree with all the above
I am now in my 30's and had a motorbike accident when I was 17-18 and still have the scars to prove it. Gravel rash hurts like hell and can hurt more then broken bones ( ended up with both)
Ankle breaks and scrapes can stay with you for a whole life time so boots are a must.
It is fine for someone who has never come off to say don't bother but I honestly think most who have eaten tarmac will support the idea of boots, gloves, jacket and trousers..Better to have your skin on your body then on the road.
Enjoy the freedom and the price difference but be safe and look after yourself so that you have years of enjoyment aheadThere is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

i use it on all my car windows and i use the rain x repellant on the outside its very good you dont have to use you wipers in the rain unless your going under about 40mph ( so this may not be too effective at 30 on a visor but it will help a bit)
Although Rain X would probably help a visor i would not recommend it. From RainX' own site:
"Can it be used on transparent plastics?
Generally no.
The increasing variety of various coatings applied to plastics makes it impossible to pre-test for compatibility under all conditions, and users should satisfy themselves by treating an area outside the normal area of vision. Please note that constant, repetitive use should be avoided due to the possible formation of stress cracking, especially on clear, curved sections. "
However anti-fog is a must, I ride a motorcycle and this is my greatest annoyance.
As someone else mentioned decent riding gear is also needed. If freedom is outlawed, only outlaws will have freedom.0 -
Thanks for all your advice and suggestions. I will of course get a new helmet, but think I might scour ebay for 2nd hand jacket, boots and trousers.
Oh, one more question if you don't mind. What sort of chain/lock would you recommend please?0 -

On my motorbike I find Rain X isn't that effective below motorway speeds. Still use it though.
A chain is only good if the bike is chained to something. If this is likely then get a chain. If not a Disc Lock is far more compact, remember to remove it though!
Look for things like Thatcham Approved and Sold Secure......0 -
I'm late to the party..
Like the others have said, jacket, gloves etc etc.. But get the best you can afford.. Having watched my wife get knocked off and go sliding down the road, I was very glad she was wearing the proper kit.
I don't know what your background on two wheels is, but is could be worth having a look here and get a free lession.0 -

I had a friend wiped out on a moped like that. He was 16, travelling between villages. He wanted to turn right to his village, road he was on wasn't straight, it had a slight left curve. He overtook the bus to cut the corner..... and hit a huge dumper truck head on coming the other way. Dead.
Dont forget the golden rule - if you can't see round it don't over take it i.e. buses!0
