iPod Classic or iPod Touch

I've got an iPod Shuffle at the moment but I'm looking to upgrade to either the classic or touch. I'm not very familiar with either so I was wondering if someone could tell me which is the better one to buy.

  • If you've got loads of music & photos/movies (check your iTunes) i.e. more than 30gb or so, then you'd probably be better to get a Classic. If you haven't got that much, and want games/apps to play with when you're out and about, get a Touch.

The Classic can't play apps/games, therefore it's pretty vital to decide if you want storage space over apps/games or vice versa

The ipod touch has internet/e-mail, so you can use your own wifi network at home, and you can often find free wifi away from home. Also if you are abroad, and can find a wifi network you can use skype with headphones/mic and use the i-touch like a mobile phone without the costs associated with foreign calls (many cafes have free wifi in some countries including Turkey). It depends if you want/need this facility.

  • Defo go with the touch unless you need more than 64gb of memory (as this is the highest available in the touch series)

A Ipod touch is more than Music and video player, with the apps and games its more like a PDA, even a internet skype phone if you have skype credit or free skype to skype calls.

if you want a music player for being just a music player then go for the Classic .

i use the Apple Lossless file format to store my music so i get the best quality sound when playing back . my 80gb classic is pretty much full now with 200 albums , and i also have podcasts on it . i'm currently letting go through songs alphabetically on my Car stero . 2 weeks on i think i'm most of the way through the B's

i use my Iphone for all the other the stuff .

a touch is basically a Iphone without the phone that also does music . The Classic is all about the music .

The Touch yes for films etc. Sweet bit of kit. It keeps me sane on my daily commute to work on the train

Just make sure you get a 32gb 3rd generation (not the 8gb 3rd generation) or later model as these have a more powerful processor. After that, it is all down to how much you want to spend

  • Films will, of course, quickly fill-up the memory of the itouch. If you can live with the smaller screen, then the classic is always going to be the winner in terms of storage - and films are storage-hungry. If you want all the bells and whistles of the touch then you're going to have to compromise on capacity. Personally, I love the Classic as it retains all the simple functionality of the first Ipods. As an all-round MP3 player it has yet to be beaten.
