    Have you tried re-tuning?

Has the TV got its own digital tuner built in?

    Twist them together as shown.

I personally weave the twisted braid over and under the legs of the clamp piece. If there is no screw in the centre then put a couple of small bends in the inner (to make a tiny loose s shape) and pull it through with pliers - this will make it contact the inside of the pin and isn't strictly speaking necessary as there will be a good enough capacitive connection probably anyway so it's just belts and braces.

I'd guess that if the aerial is known to be good then most likely you have somehow created a short circuit.

Could be the manky 25 year old co-ax is full of water. Co-ax typically has a life of around 5 years but as people don't transmit with their telly aerials, they don't notice anything is wrong. It could also be the connection thats corroded at the antenna end.

If its that old, I'd not bother trying to fanny around with it and just get a whole new antenna and cable installed.

Why did you need to fit a new end?

    Was the old one duff?

Did you have to take an old one off to fit this new one?
