HTC Touch repairs

I have had a htc touch ltd edition for 3 years originally on contract with 02. the phone has been sent back for repair on numerous occassions and the handset has been replaced twice. I think the phone is more style over substance, but I kind of got a bit attached to it, being my first smart phone.
last year I went to sim only contract and then the phone broke again. I returned it to HTC and it was repaired for free. when it was returned I turned it on, it worked and i put it back in the box intending to use it as my back up phone. I have turned it on today and the screen wont align.
I have looked at the repair docket and the last repair was carried out in November 2009, but gives no indication as to how long a repair is guaranteed for. One would expect a repair to last for longer than a year surely?
Is it worth sending back to HTC, outlining what the problem is in the hope of a free repair. I want to use this phone for a short period of time whilst searching for another phone.
all suggestions gratefully received.

Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task
