Other forums -- a warning

Uniquely of any of the discussion forums I visit on the internet, the Bankruptcy forum on MSE is polite, friendly and supportive. Perhaps the position we find ourselves in makes us more understanding or, maybe, more humble.

With the one exception of what I thought was clumsy moderating, my experience of this forum has been uniformly positive.

Anyhoo, yesterday I started a thread about the evils of credit cards. I started it here because I think of you all as my online friends and I suspected you'd understand my point of view. The thread was, however, moved to The Moneysavers Arms - Discussion Time.

In its new home it was met with aggressive and nasty hostility. There was no understanding, no support, no empathy. Just vicious personal attacks.

So I think I shall return to being a lurker on MSE, at least for now. I didn't come here to be yelled at and told that I'm the reason why the country is in the mess it's in.

oh no wolfers i am so sorry to hear that...i saw it got moved but did not realise where to! if you had wanted an argument you would have just posted it there yourself...!

DT is very argumentaive and judgemental - I'm not sure why so many threads have been moved there lately and a lot of regulars from other boards have had the experence you had

Please keep posting, and if a thread gets moved to DT just wash your hands of it

Hi,

I sometimes take breaks from this board, but thats because I work 5 days per week on debt and like to take a break completely from debt once in a while!
However I do increasingly see very talented posters leaving or deciding to lurk because of something said on the forum. We cant let the tiny minority who are out to destroy everything this board provides, win.
Wolfers, I am bigger and stronger than 'them' and so are you. I find your posts very interesting and informative and I really hope you and others will stick around (and some already gone, come back)
The moderators may have to have a re think about how to handle certain aspects, but this is OUR board, and we should hold together to keep it that way and not let abusive idiots push us out of the way.

Great advice from delain.

Remember that in the Arms there are very few with BR knowledge & background so they do not see it from the perspective that we or DFW do.

Been there & had that done to me when one of my threads was moved into DT:eek::eek: ( lamb, slaughter....you get the idea...)

Please try & forget it.

I jsut read the other thread re credit cards and there are some very narrow minded people quick to crit.... Wonder how quick their attitude would change it they hit hard times through illness or some other unforseen problem.
Yes ofcourse we are all responsible for our own debts despite how hard or unfair it came about, but also i do think CC companies are irresponsible in the way they up peoples credit limits etc. It can be tempting to use a cc when you are in dire needs and i dont mean because your tv has broken down.
I think anyone who posts a personal attack on someone else ie calling someone !!!!less etc should have that post removed by a moderator and they should be suspended. There is no need for personal attacks on anyone. Yes everyone is entitled to an opinion but what use is it calling someone !!!!less.. infact what does that say about the person posting the comment.

Hi wolfers, i to hope you keep posting here, I should add that the reason it was probably moved is that although most of the people here would agree with you the very subject itself (about credit card companies) is likely to invite arguement and attract the rather nasty people over to this board, by keeping subjects like that on the DT board it does rather keep them self contained, or at least that is the idea

I think your title was very emotive and this has caused the reaction that you have had. To be fair if I had not gone BR, I would have most probably reacted the way that they have. They don`t know the full story, as none of us do.

I agree wolfers. I replied to your post on the br board and the next thing it had been moved. I was shocked by the hostility which was just unnecessary. Anyhow onwards and upwards :cool:

just read that entire thread, its horrible the way people are so quick to judge. They don't know the circumstances which lead people into their current situations, and so they just say hurtful things

IGNORE them!!

only you know the truth behind your own story. I feel very bad, guilty, stupid, pathetic etc etc for getting myself into the situation I am in now. I can only promise myself not to sleep walk into situations in the future. listening to nasty comments from people who dont understand will not help.

Different boards seem to have different atmospheres; there are some boards where people talk like old friends and treat people like family, and some where there are vicious and judgmental people determined to start a fight. Seems strange.
