Running Windows 7, IE8

Wondered whether anyone can help with the following 2 problems please.

I reinstalled back to factory conditions and now sitting in my Favourites I have a button called 'Favorites Bar'. I have right-clicked 'delete', gone to 'Properties' and clicked 'read only' and 'hidden', then deleted, but the little monster keeps recreating itself! Only a small niggle, but I don't want the useless little button. Can anyone help please? I did manage to permanently lose this button before reinstalling, but it's more persistant this time.

The second problem is ongoing and have not been able to sort.

When scrolling down a page there is a 'drag' before the page scrolls down. Although it doesn't happen on every website some are quite difficult to use because of this delay. I have 'smooth scrolling' ticked in Tools, Advanced. I wondered whether it was due to using Roboform but have no other ideas, unless it is something to do with my mouse settings, which haven't been altered.

Have typed these problems into Google on several occassions but keep being led up blind alleys.

If anyone can come up with any ideas would be really grateful.

Thank you

Anyone have any other advice please?

When clicking Tools I get most of those options but not the toolbar one. Have tried to Prt Sc and copy here, but unsuccessful.

Is there anything else I can try?

    Thanks for your help.
  • Hi,

just thinking, that'll just hide the toolbar, to remove you could go to control panel, programs, should find it there.

Thanks for replying. It's not really the toolbar itself that I want removing. The actual toolbar itself (above) is unticked and remains hidden with no problem. It is a folder in my favourites/bookmarks (at side of screen) called 'Favourites Bar' which is the problem.

In the old version of IE7 this folder was called 'Links' and you could right click, choose Properties, and click 'Hide'. It's not so simple with link called Favourites Bar though; however many times I delete the link recreates itself.

It was placed there by Microsoft for no other reason than to annoy (I think)!

I know I should use Firefox but am used to Outlook Express (well, nearly)!

Thanks very much for your help.
  • Hi,

see what you mean now, had a search and found this, scroll down to post 5.

You can have IE and FF both installed at the same time, and both running at the same time, I use FF but have IE as reserve, just incase.

I use this add-on in FF, for quick access.

Thanks very much for further information.

Yesterday evening I fiddled around with 'properties' within the Favourites folder, and (I don't know what I did!) but the folder wasn't there this morning. Have kept the link you sent in case it reappears.

You don't have any ideas about the drag in scrolling? On some websites (not MSE) it's a real nuisance.

    Really appreciate your help.

Thanks frugal macdugal. The only thing I've found is through Google searches and clicking the 'smooth scrolling' option in Tools, Advanced. It doesn't make any difference though.

Sometimes the page zooms down when there is a form to be filled in and I wonder whether my Roboform software causes that to happen. Wondering whether the two problems are linked, although I had Roboform on my previous PC but there was not drag in scrolling.

    Computers eh!
