Can certainly top that with my last trip to a Lloyds bar where the barmaid (who has been there for almost a year according to her) didnt know what bitter was... firstly she offered strongbow and then fosters when I asked for a bitter shandy (not for me I hasten to add) and said I didnt mind which bitter they used.

I think Lloyds / Whetherspoons have gone right down the pan. I like real ale, but JDs idea of it now seems to be either John Smiths or something called "Sorry not available" which they have a lot.

On subject of glasses, I had a barman pour me out some wine (for someone else) straight into a half pint glass. Besides breaking half a dozen regulations, was that classy or what?!

  • Yup thats basically my issue, i can understand if its a busy night and they are running low on clean glasses, a lot of the time they will ask you if its ok or apologise. But if i had done that where i worked i would have been shot.

Theres usually about 6 "Sorry not available" signs in my local one, lol. Its quite annoying wen u get told the drink you want is not available because they have run out.

  • Are these regional problems? In the local branches round my way they are pretty good in terms of availability of ales, clean and correct glasses etc. Bit strange seeing wine coming out of a tap rather than a bottle though!

However we do avoid the food at one particular Wetherspoons as they seem to mess up the simplest things: "toasted" when applied to a burger bun does not mean done like toast! And because of the way it went through the til, the cheese and bacon that was meant to be in the burgers came up on separate plates!
