b/b 8900 wont switch on

my sons blackberry 8900 wont switch on , when charging- screen goes white with a battery icon with a red line thru it.
so bought a new battery which did take a charge only once but it now doing the same .
any ideas or is it for the bucket???

Could be wrong type of battery.

Try removing the memory card and do factory reset?
