laptop stuck on welcome screen, can anyone help please?

my lappy is stuck on the welcome screen and wont do anything else
the blue circle is going round & round
it really needs replacing, but i was hoping to get a couple more weeks from it and buy new in the sales
is it fixable? even temporarily?

Have you tried holding down the power button for 10 or so seconds? If you have then try taking the battery out and disconnecting from the mains. Put the battery back in and switch on.0

Boot into Safe Mode often cures a minor star up error .

i tried the holding down the button bit but i shall try the battery bit now, thank you!0

i tried in safe mode
and i can get it to start like that
tried a system restore, it wouldnt let me
so i held the button down again as i didnt know what to do when in was in safe mode0 -

What does this mean? You need to describe clearly the steps you took and what you saw on screen.

i have no idea what i am doing, none whatso ever:o
it offered me the chance to do it
and since it was the only thing it appeared i could do, i tried system restore
when i start in safe mode, i get my normal screen but everything is really big0 -

i removed battery having unplugged it
it just starts the same, allows me to put in password and then remains on the welcome screen0 -
Have you left it a little while i.e. 15 minutes to see what happens? If anything? Could be an issue with a stick of memory.0
