Well it hasn't got any better. I'm not sure why most of you think I should just live with it and say oh well it's the weather!
From tomorrow I will be paying the mortgage on the house.
It's 4 days before Christmas and we have people and a van booked.
I have also taken time off work to get things moved.
I was simply asking from the legal side of things and what we should expect.
I am not an unreasonable person. But we have been waiting for 2 months now and out staying our welcome at our friends!
So to be blunt if we can our van in, which I know we can as I have spent all day clearing the way... then they say they can't... what's the story!?0 -

I can't answer your questions but I do wish you luck. We complete today (hope the solicitors and the estate agent who will have the keys get into work in the snow:mad:) and are meant to move in tomorrow.
If we get the keys, we are going to move in anyway, borrow a camp bed and some garden chairs. The electricity and heating are being left on and we will improvise if our furniture doesn't make it tomorrow.
We will try and see it as a bit of an adventure as there is nothing we can do anyway. I am hoping the removal people will not charge us twice as it is not our fault if they can't deliver. But that is a dilema for another day.
Good luck with your move.0 -

The solicitors will just have to sort out some reasonable way of proceeding, assuming all concerned are prepared to be reasonable and sensible. You should be trying to talk direct to the people whose house you are moving to to see how they are placed.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -

Legally you can enforce completion and if they don't offer vacant possession you can get compensation which will be a 'contract rate' shown in your contact.
If the snow is so bad that they physically can't move out and you can't physically move in then there's unfortunately not much else you can do.0 -
The house I'm buying (due to exchange/complete) tomorrow was cleared out/emptied by the vendors yesterday in the most horrendous snow. I gave them the option to leave it until after Christmas, but they chose to persevere. Hey, ho they're the ones getting the money so I'm not overly surprised. Heating been left on for me, but as soon as its my house, I'm going round there to drain the water system right down as I can't move in for a while due to renovation work.0

Ask your solicitor but if the old owners can't move out (rather than won't move out) there must be a way of dealing with this through the law.
About 10% of properties change hands each year. Think about the number of those that must be suffering flooding at the time or some other calamity happens.
The solicitor will have the answer.
PS I hope it all works out for you. Come back and tell us all what happens won't you.0 -

You have cleared the way to your new house? Or how do you know the situation is exactly the same there? If their van driver says he won't risk it what are you going to do?0 -

Why doesn't that surprise me.0 -
OP - are you for real?
Snow happens, !!!! happens.... live with it.
Unless you have the power of God and can make all the snow disappear you will need to be patient.
I'd have thought most people would show a little "understanding" in these conditions.0
