Perhaps it would also be worth adding that CrossCountry trains are supposed under their franchise to offer wifi.
To date while operators with the same types of trains have managed this (Virgin, East Midlands, East Coast) CrossCountry have failed.
CrossCountry have already been fined for non-provision of wifi but perhaps a little more pressure being added by the moneysavers might help to keep fares low by getting the company to meet is obligations rather than paying fines.

It will be paying the fines because it is cheaper than getting wifi installed - so nothing for them to gain by installing it.

East Midlands Trains offer pay WiFi on all the new trains and the older trains are being fitted with wifi as we speak.

It's free for first class passengers.

Truly awful value for money and truly awful speeds and connections.

Far better to buy a much cheaper USB dongle.

It also costs £10 IIRC for O2 to turn your iphone into a data "transmitter" (tethering) and connect your laptop via that and i'm sure the other networks do similar.

If you have a pretty new phone epecially and Android based phone you can tether your phone to your laptop for free.

    (sorry went off topic)
