Hi im sure its a silly question. On my worchester bosch boiler there is a central heating temperature control selector and i ranges from 0 -6. Is there an optimum setting ? I understand its for controling my radiators but im trying to keep cost down while keeping warm in this cold. I have my thermostat set at 19C so where does that control even come in ? i currently have the selector set at about 2 and a half. If i turn it up does it heat the house quicker or what ?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks
Keith

To quote from a WB boiler manual:
"Higher settings obviously mean hotter radiators and rooms will reach the required temperature quicker"

That doesnt answer your question fully though!

I would suggest that you advance the temperature control on the boiler to a point where the radiators are hot to the degree you can't keep your hand on them for more than a few seconds. No more. As mentioned this will allow the system and rooms to heat up quicker but not effect the controlled room temperature which will be governed by your room stat setting.

Set it to 4 at least as that is 59c, having it on two low will just mean it takes longer to heat up the house if it manages to at all. I have mine set on 5 in this weather though.

  • The boiler will only work to full efficiency (ie 92 or 93%) if it is on full maximum power. Only then you will realise the full potential and cost savings on a new condensing boiler - which aren't much to be frank!

Use the room stat to control heating and make sure the room where the stat is in has no other form of heating - ie radiator.
