I need a really simple simple free video editing programme. I just want to cut down video to the relevant bits and save them. I downloaded JAH player and it is too sophisticated for me.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hiya,
For video editing, use Windows Movie Maker for simplicity and robustness.
Luckily there is now a serious professional open source editing system - Lightworks. It is just newly open sourced, but is a major system which has edited many movies you've seen in the cinema!

It is NOWHERE as simple as Windows Movie Maker, but anyone serious about video editing should have a look. Its nearest competitor is Avid, it is a serious bit of kit. It uses a slightly different interface than you'll be used to, but is wonderfully powerful and capable at the price (£0!)0 -
Thanks everyone! I eventually want to learn to make compilation DVDs from DVDs I own. For example, a Christmas compliation of my fave christmas episodes of various boxsets I have. Can I do this, do you know?0

Technically that's slightly trickier - DVD's are designed to prevent you from getting the files off them, however it is possible. DVDDecrypter (free) can extract the files from the discs (you only want the VOB files), but then you will have to convert those to a format you can edit, and you can try SUPER (free) to do it. Neither of those steps is trivial, mind, they require a bit of confidence/experience/perseverance! The other option is to *capture* the output from a DVD player, some DV (tape format) cameras will allow this, or use one of those "convert your VHS" dongles (£6-£50 depending on quality and how easy it is to use - many are just horrible so get one with an idiots guide and a shop you can take it back to!). Capturing will be slightly lower quality, but staggeringly faster - I use both methods and the capturing is consistently faster and easier.
Legally, hmmm, ask one of our legals friends. If you own and do not sell/dump the original discs and just use them for yourself, then nobody will know, so will not object...0 -
Hi, I've tried finding moviemaker 6 myself to download, but can't find higher than 2, and that is for Vista. Any ideas?0

Hi Paddy,
I think that is weird, as you can make compliation CDs from music you own on iTunes, so why not DVDs?0
