Travel insurance terminated, travelling soon

I booked a trip to Tenerife for New Years Eve back in March and bought travel insurance at the same time. My company transferred me to Japan a few weeks ago which means I'm no longer a uk resident and has invalidated my travel insurance.

My question is whether it's too late to re-purchase travel insurance that will cover me if my flight is cancelled or delayed due to bad weather (I have found a company that covers for bad weather). Is it an outright no now that we know it will be a harsh winter, or is there still hope?

have you checked with the travel insurance that you purchased back in march to see if it is still valid or not? after all, i presume you will be coming to the UK to fly out to tenerife. Do u still have a current address in the UK?

What type of holiday have you booked for tenerife? if it's a package, and the flight is cancelled then you should get a refund for the whole amount anyway (including your accommodation). if, however, it's a DIY, then if the flight is cancelled then whilst you will get a refund of the flight cost, the accommodation cost is a matter for debate.

Used to be a travel agent for 23 Years, but now out of the industry. However I will help with what i can.
  • Thanks HXDave, I still have my parent's address in the UK. I will double check with the company as I will be starting this trip from the UK.

This is a DIY trip and my main concern is my flight to the UK being delayed or cancelled resulting in me missing my flight to Tenerife. I'm due to arrive in England 24 hours before the flight to Tenerife departs.

As the flight you want covered does not originate in the UK I doubt your UK policy will cover you as they normally cover journeys starting and ending in the UK.

You will need to take out a policy in Japan to cover it or try https://www.worldnomads.com or https://www.worldwideinsure.com

At new policy at this stage won't cover weather delays caused by snow now that it's a known event, or am I mistaken?
