Anyone know what West Malling/Kings Hill is like to live

  • How does kings hill compare to Tonbridge.

Which area is the better place to live?

(I will be commuting to London for work)

Don't know about Kings Hill, but Tonbridge is not as bad as some people make out. Architecturally, it's certainly nowhere near Tunbridge Wells which is stunning Georgian/Regency elegance. Tonbridge, by comparison, has the appearance of a 1960s new town. But that, of course, tells you nothing about the kind of people that live/shop there.

Schools in Tonbridge are excellent. Many kids commute from TW to a school in Tonbridge!

Rail links, as has been mentioned, are also excellent from Tonbridge .... but limited seating at busy times as most trains have started further out (Hastings, Dover, Margate etc). It's worth noting that the commuter trains on the Hastings line don't stop at Tonbridge! Some extra trains start from Tonbridge, however. Plenty of parking at the station, but get there early(ish). Rail links from TW are fine too. The Hastings trains stop at TW and again at High Brooms and the commuter trains are then fast into London. Presumably, there's no reason why you wouldn't commute from West Malling though?

Surrounding villages are beautiful, if you want rural living with the convenience of shopping & good rail links nearby.

Shopping in TW is "upmarket" with Fenwicks, Lakeland, Fired Earth, Wesley Barrell ... and the excellent Hoopers. Tonbridge is more Poundstretcher & Lidl, but a huge Sainsburys next to the station.

All in all ..... you probably wouldn't live IN Tonbridge or TW, but you want the convenience of both. Of course, Sevenoaks is not too far from Kings Hill either, as is Maidstone.

I assume you've checked out the Kings Hill Parish Council website, as that can give you a flavour of what life is like there. This site looks interesting too.

Sorry, I've rambled on about TW and Tonbridge - mainly just to put Tonbridge into perspective, which is much maligned, but does have its good points :D
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
