I've left Tesco Mobile......
Apols if this has been covered before in various posts, I have searched but can't quite find a match.
I'm looking for another mobile provider. I'm a "light" PAYG user and quite happy with my existing phone. Tesco have given me a PAC - does this mean I can move my old phone number to my new provider (within the time limit advised by Tesco).
Also could I use my existing phone (bought from Teco Mobile) with a new supplier . How would this work - can I just buy a sim card and then top-up as usual ?
Thanks for your help.

The PAC code means you can transfer your number however you may need to unlock your phone before putting another operators sim card in (never used Tesco mobile, not sure if they lock your phone) depending on make/model of phone you could get it done for around £10:AWhatever it is - I didn't do it!:A0

Ask any mates to try their sim in your Tesco Phone so you can get the idea if it isn't locked to Tesco.
Sometimes I've found O2 mobiles unlocked so it depends.
Otherwise as above poster says you would have to pay around ten pounds to get your phone unlocked from an independent phone shop.
Sometimes you can get unlock codes on the net free or ££ but I don't know how risky it is..0 -
OP - do you mind me asking why you've moved away from Tesco? i'm just about to go for one of their pay monthly sim deals as they seem pretty unbeatable at the moment. did you have problems with them?0

Believe it or not I had a problem with getting a signal within an area of 7 mile radius of home ! (Chelmsford is a large town). Phone works fine beyond that range and when I've used it abroad. Tesco can't fathom out why and I've just had enough of never being able to use it.
I've never heard of anyone else with this problem so I wouldn't let it put you off.

thanks Linda
signal is the main reason i'm going for Tesco as O2 is best for me at home, but Tesco work out about half the price of O2 direct. i thought i'd give it a go for a month at least, for the sake of £20 - it could save me £100's!
have you tried other providers to see what the signal is like? i just ordered the free sims from their websites, you don't need to register them or anything, without any top up you can still call CS to see what the signal is like.
hope you get yours sorted ok.0 -

I had no idea I could do this ! Thanks for the tip, I've been putting off getting a new phone because I didn't know where to start (middle-aged moment).

Tesco use O2 for the signal so it may be that there isn't good reception in your area for O2.
I'm about to get a Tesco mobile SIM as it's a pretty good deal for £10 a month, which is all I want to pay.0 -

Hi Linda
Get yourself a sim of the provider you want make sure you phone is unlocked. Call up the new op and give them the PAC. Two working days later number will be transfered across0
