A Moral Dilema - naughty or nice??

  • Well i'm going to disagree with everyone else and say i'd lie and take the money. Heh, I have no morals.
  • Aye, can't beat a bit of dishonesty and theft. Screw the Royal Mail while you're at it - everybody else can just pay higher postage next year to cover the cost of all these false claims. As long as it save you a buck and gives you a rosy glow, who cares?

I would check that the card was for these items, and would let the company know.

Please don't be put off posting again though. :A

Not to mention potential criminal record for theft.

Clearly not, he's lying to customers!
I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!
  • I just have no sympathy for the big companies that are currently all hiking their prices

and lying about receiving a parcel will teach them a lesson? Well maybe if you stop and think about the effect it has on hard working people who struggle already and don't lie to obtain things, next year the big companies will just up their prices to compensate for people like you.

Wish I knew which route your husband worked on. Who knows, that parcel that isn't there may be something a parent has had to work and save bloody hard for this year.

    Merry Christmas

and is very grateful that your husband doesn't work in my local delivery office who have already had weather problems for three weeks.
  • Hi Everyone

This is my final post on this subject as the last thing I want to do is stir up any trouble or angst - I have been watching the replies since yesterday but always feel that it is best to let emotions simmer down before replying to situation.

First of all I'd like to say that perhaps if my question had been phrased better I would have had different replies - if for example I had written 'I have a friend that has this situation' or perhaps 'hypothetically what if' then people would have been more honest, or at least less judgmental. However, I have never been good at lying, I am what I am (much like marmite, you love me or hate me) so my original post was deliberately honest - I could have pretended that i had not been tempted, but do i not deserve some credit for admitting I was? I will reiterate that I NEVER said I WOULD take the money, I asked what other people thought I should do. Therefore I feel that the responses were sometimes unnecessarily judgmental. I had asked your opinion so that a debate would begin, but I am shocked at how quickly people have chosen to turn on each other.

To those that have defended me, I thank you very much - i am an unknown stranger to you and I appreciate it. Not that those who dislike me will care, but I am a genuinely nice and honest person. I work hard and do my best, I don't lie and don't agree with dishonesty or theft. I was tempted, but that was all - I am proud for admitting I am not perfect :)

Anyway, as an end to this I'd like to say thank you to:

    thifty; emmaanddave; crystal_fire; poppett; LalaGomay; Tigsteroonie; penelopedee; SugarSpun; stingeylas; Sublime;

not because everyone 'agreed with me' (if you chose to consider that by posting I had made a decision) but because you gave an honest answer to my question, and that is why I posted.

Anyways... as it happens the parcel was NOT my delivery (it was in fact a free gift for the children I had gotten by collecting tokens out of a newspaper!) So I am afraid the debate was somewhat null and void. It has been interesting though - I may ask for a refund, or I may ask them to redeliver it, however I hope (as I have not received the goods) it is ok if I make this decision on my own :)

Whatever the result, at least I can say the post has sparked debate - people are fascinating to me and any debate is interesting. I genuinely would like to wish everyone the happiest Christmas and New Year - I hope life treats you well and makes you happy!

    Cheers!
:) Trying to be good and watch the pennies, but guilty of falling off the wagon every so often! :p

this is not honesty, this is judgement.

I had not made a decision, I asked a question. Because I asked a question the assumption was that I was on the side of taking the money, when in fact I was leaning more the other way.

Actually "this" is having a sense of humour... You obviously were last in line when that was being handed out....
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?
