2nd faulty sky+ hd box am i missing something?

    Try a forced download.

    Turn off the mains power
    Press & hold the 'Back-Up' button on the box,turn the power back on while holding the button.
    When the lights come on the front & you see a message on the tv,release the back up button.
    After 10 minutes,the lights'll go off & the message on the TV will go.Wait 5 minutes & turn on the box.

    That might cure it,the installers are meant to do this on a HD install but don't.

    No,because you are only updating the box software,you'll only loose the recordings of a hard drive re-build.

    The "Sky+ rebuild" does NOT delete any recordings unless they are already corrupted and is rather like checkdisk on a PC- what you are thinking of is the "System Reset" which does delete all recordings and planner entries and is basically the equivalent of disk format on a PC. Don't get the two confused.
