Freesat/Sky LNB feed query

Same thing but £3.95 with free delivery which should work but you would have to wire it differently to as it's labelled as your doing 1 LNB in to 2 receivers out. You should really power off the receivers before switching to avoid any possibility of damaging the receivers.
I don't see what you are going to get out of it because the number of channels will be less and the EPG worse. The only benefit might be timeshifting/recording, which is nice to have, which probably won't be available on older sky boxes and which I believe is a payable subscription option with Sky+.
If you are using more than one LNB connection for the sky box, which you probably are not unless you pay for it, then you would need two switches to change the path from the LNB feeds.
Make sure you power everything off before switching or risk some damage! This will only mean not having to swap F connectors but it will lower the signal strength/quality slightly due to insertion loss and the extra connections which could affect the picture especially while raining.0 -
Did you scroll down the page and read the Q&A's, it seems that it will not work on satellite feeds.
That's because those A/B Switches are originally designed for use on cable installs & were used to allow the customer to switch between the cable feed to the TV from the cable box & a external aerial.
They were fitted between the cable box & the TV/VCR & NOT between the incoming feed & cable box.Maplins must've bought a job lot.0 -

I've got one of those, it works fine with 2 receivers and one LNB. It's a bit cheaper than what I paid for it too.Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.0 -
Inactive, I do hope you enjoy the music channels on Freeview, I can't find any (4Music is very short on, you know, music!).
steady_eddie - there's another solution that I haven't seen in this thread. If you look at the back of your Humax, you'll see that it has 2 LNB in, and 1 LNB out. This is to get 2 feeds in from the dish to view or record, and the out is to allow a signal to PASS THROUGH the box, if it's not being used. You would use this pass through, and plug the LNB out into the LNB in of the sky box. So that works for your Humax, and I don't know what other Freesat boxes have them. I think that's the most elegant solution if you can find the right box...0 -
Indeed it is, but I don't watch music, I listen to it, and I have a radio for that.:)
6 Music anyone?
Simple cable from phono outputs on Freeview box to amp. Not bad quality.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Spud17 - yes but I was referring to Inactive's post about the different channel lineups, Freesat has more (as in more than 1/2 a one - 4music) music (TV) channels. 6music is available on both platforms, and yes, my Freesat box is connected to my AV amp via optical cable for DD 5.1, where available...0

More, is not always better..
I have Freesat, FreesatfromSky, Free to Air ( motorised dish ) and Freeview, I far prefer the Freeview channel line up.

Oh Inactive, now you've gone and been and done it. This 'ere free to air business, is this the kit that Lidl knock out every now and again for about 30 quid and most folks rubbish on here 'cos you can't get channel 5 or whatever on them ?
I appreciate that only 1 satelite can be received at a time unless like yourself a motorised dish is available, but is there a "decent" satelite which can be accessed from the U.K. and viewed without a working knowledge of Portugeese or Farsi ?
I just did a quick google on FTA listings and only came up with yankee sites which I presume may not all be accessible on this side of the pond ? Any links would be most appreciated.
This could keep me occupied until March/April when work could start again on the garden railway. (Timetables currently severly disrupted due to snow on the line).0 -
